Srtm and Beyond: Current Situation and New Developments in Spaceborne Insar
نویسنده
چکیده
SAR interferometry (InSAR) has become one of the most powerful tools in radar remote sensing. Generation of digital elevation models, measurement of glacier flows and mapping of earthquakes, volcanoes and subsidence are the most prominent applications of InSAR. For most of these applications continuous acquisition of SAR data from space over many years, like with the ERS-1/2 or Radarsat, is indispensable, and a quality in its own. The unique Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) demonstrated in 2000 the single-pass InSAR technology for global topographic mapping by generating a world-wide DEM of unprecedented resolution and uniform quality. A new generation of SAR satellites will be launched in the next three years: TerraSAR-X, Radarsat-2, SARLupe, COSMO-Skymed and ALOS. They embody a lot of novel features, such as higher resolution, polarimetry, splittable antennas, and spot-light imaging mode. These future SAR satellites systems and their potential are described after a review of the state of the art SAR and InSAR techniques and applications. Traffic monitoring by TerraSAR-X is highlighted as a particular application, where after new ideas for InSAR satellite constructions and configurations are discussed.

Interferometric Alignment of Spaceborne Dual-antenna Sar System
In spaceborne dual-antenna (i.e., single-pass mode) interferometric synthetic aperture radar (InSAR) system, the alignment of the master and slave antenna beam is crucial. In order to achieve the best interferometric performance, antenna beams should be coincided with each other between the master and slave. The beam alignment of the first spaceborne dual-antenna InSAR system, the Shuttle Radar...
متن کاملFusion of Optical and InSAR DEMs: Improving the Quality of Free Data
An approach to DEM fusion was developed to improve the overall accuracy of DEMs and applied to two public products: Shuttle Radar Topographic Mission (SRTM) DEM and Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection (ASTER) DEM. The relative ASTER DEM was co-registered to the SRTM coordinates and converted to the near absolute DEM by shifting the histogram to the average elevation of the SRTM ...
متن کاملInSAR Kalman Filter Phase Unwrapping Algorithm Based on SRTM DEM
PU (phase unwrapping) is the key step and important problem in DEM (digital elevation model) extraction and the measurement of surface deformation of InSAR (Interferometric synthetic aperture radar). The CKFPUA (conventional Kalman filter phase unwrapping algorithm) can obtain reliable results in the flat terrain areas, but it caused error transmission not making the accurate inversion of surfa...
متن کاملValidation of surface height from shuttle radar topography mission using shuttle laser altimeter
Spaceborne Interferometric SAR (InSAR) technology used in the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) and spaceborne lidar such as Shuttle Laser Altimeter-02 (SLA-02) are two promising technologies for providing global scale digital elevation models (DEMs). Each type of these systems has limitations that affect the accuracy or extent of coverage. These systems are complementary in developing DE...
متن کاملAssessment of Srtm, Ace2 and Aster-gdem Using Rtk-gps
To date, the majority of digital elevation models (DEMs) are generated using photogrammetric methods. Recent remote sensing techniques, such as radar interferometry (InSAR), have also been used to generate high quality DEMs over a great area. Spaceborne high resolution DEMs with almost global coverage, such as SRTM, ACE2 and ASTER-GDEM, were made available to the public in the last few years. T...
